This course is designed for employees who classify, package, mark, label, load, unload, or prepare hazardous materials for transportation and who require training under 49 CFR 172 Subpart H.
• Identify and classify hazardous materials under the U.S. Department of Transportation Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Parts 171–180) • Navigate the Hazardous Materials Table and select the correct proper shipping name, hazard class, identification number, and packing group • Determine packaging requirements and select authorized non-bulk and bulk packagings • Properly fill, close, mark, and label hazardous materials packages • Prepare and certify shipping papers, manifests, and emergency response information • Apply placarding requirements for hazardous materials shipments • Understand loading, unloading, segregation, and compatibility requirements • Utilize common exceptions, including limited quantities and materials of trade • Recognize hazardous materials security requirements, including security awareness training and security plans • Comply with hazardous materials training, recordkeeping, and incident reporting requirements • Identify recent regulatory changes and apply DOT requirements to real-world shipping scenarios
